From Brawl to Big Screen: Roadhouse's Story - Release Date, Location & More

"Road House" is an action film that tells the story of a former UFC middleweight fighter who takes a job at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. However, things are not as they seem, and the fighter finds himself caught up in a dangerous situation. The movie is directed by Doug Liman and written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry.

It stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Conor McGregor, and Billy Magnussen. The film is a remake of the 1989 movie with the same title and is set to be released on March 21, 2024, in the United States through streaming on Prime Video by Amazon MGM Studios.

However, Liman expressed disappointment with Amazon for not releasing the movie in theaters, especially after they had acquired MGM and announced a $1 billion investment to release 12-15 films per year in theaters. In an editorial piece published in Deadline Hollywood, he criticized Amazon's decision and declared that he would not attend the film's premiere at the South by Southwest festival as a form of protest.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures started working on a movie in November 2013, with Rob Cohen as the director and Michael Stokes as the writer. However, in September 2015, Cohen and Stokes left the project. Later, Ronda Rousey was cast as the lead actress, and filming was set to begin the next year.

This time, Jake Gyllenhaal was set to star, with Doug Liman as the director. Despite their commitments to other projects, Gyllenhaal and Liman were on board for the movie. projects, the studio prioritized the film.

In August 2022, the studio was in search of a new writer to revise a previous draft, which was originally written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. Sheldon Turner submitted a rewritten script, however, Bagarozzi and Mondry were ultimately credited for the final screenplay, while the story credit was given to the duo along with the original story writer, David Lee Henry.

Additionally, the casting for this project, which was given the green light by Amazon Studios, had already included Jake Gyllenhaal. It is worth noting that Amazon acquired MGM five months prior.
