The airline claims that an American passenger bit a flight attendant, causing the jet to return to Tokyo

All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight ANA 118 left Tokyo's Haneda Airport at 9:47 p.m. local time on Tuesday and turned around a little over an hour into its journey, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24.
An ANA spokesperson told CNN that the male passenger was detained by police after the plane landed in the Japanese capital. They did not name him.

An American airline passenger allegedly bit a female cabin crew member mid-flight on Tuesday, forcing an ANA flight bound for Seattle to return to Tokyo, an airline spokesperson said.
According to the statement, the female flight attendant only had minor injuries.
Although this is the first case of alleged mid-air biting, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department declined to provide additional details.

In 2022, two passengers were fined $81,950 and $77,272, respectively, the largest amounts the Federal Aviation Administration had ever imposed on individual passengers for misbehaving on board an aircraft, for striking and biting members of the crew and other passengers on separate flights with US carriers American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

This month, there have been numerous reports of aggressive and rude behavior from passengers.

One such instance is the January 3 American Airlines flight that was diverted to a Texas airport due to an alleged incident in which a customer attacked a flight attendant and assaulted at least one police officer.
