Is Cervical Cancer What It Is?

The lower, narrow end of the uterus (womb) that connects to the vagina is called the cervix, and this is where cervical cancer originates. Before the cancer's appearance in the cervix, the cells undergo a process called dysplasia, in which abnormal cells begin to grow and spread more deeply into the cervix and then to the surrounding areas.
It results from a sexually transmitted infection caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a group of 200 related viruses that almost all sexually active people have at some point in their lives. While most HPV infections do not cause cancer, some types of infections can persist. In certain cases, the virus is eliminated by the body's immune system; in other cases, the chances of cervical cancer increase if the virus is one of the highest-risk viruses, HPV 16 or HPV 18.

CERVICAL CANCER SMELLS

It's important to note that cervical cancer may not show clear signs during its early stages, which is why experts caution women to take proactive measures and undergo regular screenings. As the infection spreads and abnormal cells start to grow, symptoms such as unusual vaginal bleeding, including bleeding after sex, between periods, or after menopause, as well as watery or foul-smelling vaginal discharge, and pelvic pain during intercourse may begin to appear. Therefore, it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional if you experience any of these symptoms.

Can cervical cancer be prevented?

cervical cancer can be prevented and cured effectively if detected early.

MEDICATION FOR CERVICAL CANCER

Cervical cancer can be treated using various methods such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, as stated by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

During the Budget speech on February 1, 2024-25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government is promoting vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 to protect them against cervical cancer.
